This includes ensuring that any outstanding debts and taxes are paid and distributing the remaining assets to the beneficiaries. How Much Does Probate Cost?

Probate fees can vary depending on the complexity of the estate, the level of service required, and whether you choose a fixed-fee service or hourly rates. Fixed Fee Services

For straightforward cases, we offer a fixed-fee probate service. This typically includes:

• One of our experienced lawyers discussing the Estate and identify the persons responsible for dealing with the estate and advise upon the process that will need to be followed;
• Explaining to you the information required to be provided to us confirming the assets and liabilities of the estate at the date of death;
• Prepare the Inheritance Tax papers (assumed to be nil under our fixed fee service) and arrange signature by you;
• Draft the Probate Papers for the Executors or Administrators and assist with arrangements for you to sign the same;
• Apply to the District Probate Registry for the Grant of Probate/Letters of Administration (“the Grant”) to be issued;
• Once the Grant has been issued, provide this to you to enable you to continue dealing with the administration of the estate.

Our Fixed Fee Probate Service is available from £1,800 including VAT, plus disbursements of approximately £465, which include a Probate court fee, swearing of the oath, land charges department searches, a post in the London Gazette and a post in the local newspaper (helping to protect against unexpected claims).

How Long Will It Take?

On average, straight forward estates are dealt with within 2-3 months. Typically, obtaining the grant Probate takes 8-12 weeks depending on delays at the Probate Registry.

Hourly Rates

For more complex estates, where additional legal support or specialized advice is required, our solicitors charge an hourly rate. We provide an upfront estimate of costs and keep you informed at every stage.

Disbursements

Disbursements are additional costs related to the probate process, such as:

• Court fees for the Grant of Probate.
• Fees for advertising to creditors (if required).
• Valuation fees for property or other assets.
  

How much can probate cost with a solicitor under Hourly Rates?

1. Probate Cost of a Basic Estate (no inheritance tax payable and the executors do not need to submit a full account to HM Revenue and Customs)

Our cost estimate for a basic estate is approximately £7,500 – £12,500 (plus VAT and disbursements).

2. Probate Cost of a Standard Estate (usually more than 1 property, Will contains a trust, estate contains shareholdings in companies)

Our cost estimate for a standard estate is approximately £15,000 – £30,00 (plus VAT and disbursements).

3. Probate Cost of a Complex Estate (Complex assets or intestacy)

Our cost estimate for a complex estate is from £30,00 (plus VAT and disbursements) upwards.
