INFORMATION ABOUT OUR USE OF COOKIES
This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on witansolicitors.co.uk, what each one does, and how you can control them. It was last reviewed on 21st October 2026.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember your actions and preferences over time. We also use similar technologies such as local storage, which works in much the same way, and we treat it the same way in this policy.
Your choices
When you first visit our site you are asked which categories of cookies you accept. Only strictly necessary cookies are set before you choose. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie settings link in our website footer, and you can delete cookies through your browser settings at any time.
Refusing non-essential cookies does not stop you using the site. It does mean we see less about how the site is used, and we may not be able to tell which enquiries came from which source.
Strictly necessary cookies
These are set without consent because the site cannot work properly without them, or because they record the choice you made about cookies.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| cookieyes-consent | CookieYes | Remembers which cookie categories you accepted, so you are not asked again on every page. | 1 year |
| _TID, _CRS, _da.0, _re.0 | ClearRing | Call tracking. Shows a telephone number linked to your visit so we can tell which calls came from which source, and keeps that number consistent while you browse. | |
| _gclid | ClearRing | Set only if you arrive from a Google advert. Records the advert click reference so a resulting call or enquiry can be matched back to it. | |
| flaretrk | Attributer | Remembers which page you arrived on and how you found us, so that if you send an enquiry we know which source it came from. | 1 year |
| _GRECAPTCHA | Set by reCAPTCHA on google.com when you use a form. Helps tell genuine enquiries from automated spam. | 6 months | |
| wordpress_*, wp-settings-* | Witan Solicitors | Set only for members of staff signed in to the website. Not set for ordinary visitors. |
Analytics cookies
These help us understand how people use the site so we can improve it. They are only set if you accept the analytics category.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another. | 2 years |
| _ga_VHHVMKR5PJ | Google Analytics | Keeps track of a visit for this particular site. | 2 years |
| _clck, _clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Records how pages are used, including scrolling and clicks, to show us where the site is confusing. | 1 year / 1 day |
| _cltk | Microsoft Clarity | Held in your browser’s session storage and cleared when you close the tab. | Session |
We also use Plausible Analytics, which measures visits without using cookies and without collecting personal data.
Advertising cookies
These let us measure whether our advertising works, and are only set if you accept the advertising category.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au, _gcl_aw, _gcl_ls | Google Ads | Records that you arrived from a Google advert so we can tell which adverts lead to enquiries. | Up to 90 days |
| _uetsid, _uetvid | Microsoft Advertising | The same thing for adverts shown on Bing. Also stored in your browser’s local storage. | 1 day / 13 months |
| LinkedIn Insight Tag | Measures whether people who see us on LinkedIn go on to contact us. These cookies are set on linkedin.com rather than on our site. | Up to 6 months |
Cookies set by other services on our pages
Some features on our site are provided by other companies, and those companies may set their own cookies on their own domains. We cannot read or control those cookies. They include ReviewSolicitors, which displays our client reviews, and Google reCAPTCHA, which protects our forms from spam. Each company’s own cookie and privacy policies apply to them.
Managing cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you see which cookies are stored, delete them, and block them in future. Blocking all cookies will stop parts of this and most other websites working as intended. Your browser’s help pages explain how, and the Information Commissioner’s Office publishes general guidance on cookies for the public.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy at least once a year and whenever we add or remove a service that uses cookies. If you have a question about it, please contact us.
